midsummer alchemy

by Dianne Celemen

where the land meets the lake

and mid-July graces memories,

she hears herself think aloud

revisiting an intermediate space:

cautious, discreet, transitory

tangerine fervor for daylight

seasons of sowing seeds

and seasons of reaping them—

honoring nature’s serene assurance

for spring exists alongside the winter, and

autumn holds summer close

everything goes, and this too shall pass
